Indonesian President inaugurates new sugar factory

Jakarta: Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated a new sugar factory located in Bombana regency of Southeast Sulawesi area on Thursday.

He appreciated the initiative and the investment to set up a sugar factory during the financial crisis in the country.

The Presidential Press Bureau shared his speech in which he said, “I appreciate the courage to invest in the sugar factory. This requires great confidence considering the current economic situation due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.”

The factory, constructed in 2017 began operations in August and has the capacity to produce 12,000 tonnes of cane per day.

The factory would help in meeting the country’s need for 5.8 million tonnes of cane per year that will help in reducing the imports. The mill would help in improving the country’s foreign exchange, he said.
