Modi’s government Ujjwala scheme for providing free cooking gas connection is receiving praise worldwide. Recently, the International Energy Agency (IEA) praised the step by the Indian government, saying it is a “major achievement” in improving the environment and health of women.
Fatih Birol, Executive Director at IEA said, “Providing access to LPG across India by 2020 is a major achievement. It is not an energy issue, it is an economic issue, it is a social issue.”
Government has a target of providing eight crore connections by 2020 and so far 7.4 crore such connections have been given.
Since the government came into power, the country witnessed the hike in LPG connections.
