International firm agrees to help Philippines sugar industry to boost sugar, ethanol production

Manila: A Brazil-based DATAGRO, one of the world’s largest sugar and ethanol producers and exporters has assured President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to help the country’s sugar industry to boost sugar and ethanol output, reports Newsinfo.inquirer.

The information was shared by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO).

President convened a meeting with the officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), DATAGRO, and the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) on Monday and expressed the hope that the sugar industry in the Philippines will improve sugar as well as ethanol output to cater the domestic demand.

“The long-term program to increase production and profitability of the sugar industry is possible in the Philippines,” he said, as per PCO.
DATAGRO exhibited their pilot project operating in Negros and Panay Islands at the meeting.

The Company also suggested converting sugar in molasses to ethanol as a step to avoid sugar contamination and refined oil imports.
Marcos has requested the DA and PSAC to show the demos to the country’s farmers.

He also asked the concerned agencies to assess the feasibility of DATAGRO’s plans.
