Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has introduced petrol blended with 20% ethanol in 26 outlets in Tamil Nadu, said State Head and Executive Director V. C. Asokan, reports The Hindu.
The company plans to open 66 more outlets having the capacity to provide E20 fuel by March 2024.
The company has so far achieved 10% ethanol blending in petrol in TN and is taking steps to achieve 20% blending before 2025. He said, “We can increase the quantity of ethanol being blended but for that, vehicles have to be compatible. We are holding discussions with vehicle manufacturers for the same”.
“We are also working on setting up pilot plants to produce green hydrogen in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and the number of plants will be decided considering the demand for the product apart from the availability of land and power,” he said.
