Tehran: An official with the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) announced that sugar import by Iran is down by 12 per cent in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21- November 21), compared to the same period last year.
Hojjat Barat-Ali, the director-general of GTC for distribution and sales coordination stated that the country imported 758,000 tonnes of sugar in the first eight months of the year which was lower compared to the last year. He stated that the increase in domestic production has resulted a fall in sugar imports.
The country has sufficient sugar inventory considering the domestic demand, said the officials.
