Jamaica: J Wray and Nephew Ltd has issued a statement that the company is closing its operations at Appleton Estates Sugar Factory after reporting an annual loss of US$12 million.
The company has also stated that the coronavirus has also affected the company’s production and sugar sale that has compelled it to close the operations. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the closure of hotels, restaurants, tourism and other markets that affected the sugar sale in the domestic market. It also affected the company’s sugar export activities.
Clement Jimmy Lawrence, chairman of the company said that he has no alternative but to close the operations and he regrets the same.
