Ichalkaranji (Kolhapur): Sugarcane harvesters across Maharashtra are staying in the premises of Jawahar Cooperative Sugar Mill, Ichalkaranji. MLA Prakash Awade recently contacted minister Dhananjay Munde and informed him about these cane cutters. They also want to go to their home, but due to lockdown, it seems difficult. Minister has assured that he will look into the matter.
Mill’s chairman Kallappanna Awade has ensured that the cane cutters get all the basic facilities like food, shelter and other essential commodities during their stay.
“Along with taking care of the cane harvesters, we are also taking care of their cattle till they stay in our mill premises,” said Awade.
The mill has till date spent Rs 75 lakh on them and will continue to spend money to ensure that the stay safely till lockdown period continues in the state.
