Chandigarh: Here is good news for the sugarcane farmers in the state as the two new sugar mills will start operations from next crushing season. The installations of the machinery at the two sugar mills located at Panipat and Karnal are in the final phase and will be completed soon. According to Sugarfed officials, the mills will be ready for trial at the end of April to ensure mills are ready for crushing next season.
This will benefit lakhs of cane farmers from the vicinity as the capacity of the mills have been increased. One of the sugar mills located at Meerut Road area in Karnal will be ready with the crushing capacity of 3500-tonne cane per day. The capacity of the mill can be increased to 5000 tonne per day. Total Rs 263 crore has been spent for the revival of the mill which had a crushing capacity of 1800 tonne per day. The new mill will also generate 18 MW power that will help in increasing the income of the mill.
Total Rs 306 crore has been spent on the revival of the Panipat sugar mill so far and Rs 76 crore will be spent on shifting the distillery unit.
