Bengaluru: Karnataka is working on a plan to increase ethanol production to lower the dependency on crude oil imports.
The Union government has set a target of 20 per cent ethanol blending with petrol, and the state government is moving in the same direction by boosting the ethanol output.
The country’s third largest sugarcane-producing state is coming up with a new ethanol policy that will help farmers earn more profits.
According to the news report published in The New Indian Express, Doddabasavaraju, Udyog Mitra Managing Director, who is in charge of facilitating these industries, said, “The state government is promoting ethanol production by providing facilities as well as subsidies. Banks are also providing loans for setting up ethanol plants.”
“Demand for ethanol will increase further when the vehicles running purely on ethanol become reality. At present blending ethanol with petrol will assist in reducing the country’s dependency on crude oil imports. We are gearing up to increase production and it will happen over the years,” he said.
Many companies are keen to invest in ethanol projects in Karnataka. Recently, state government had approved many ethanol projects to uplift the biofuel production.
