Mysuru: Farmers from the Karnataka State Sugarcane Cultivators Association have restated their demand for an increased fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane, reported The Hindu.
During a meeting held on Thursday, January 11, the farmers discussed pressing issues affecting the agricultural community, emphasizing the necessity to raise the FRP to ₹4,000 per tonne. Currently standing at ₹3,150 per tonne, farmers argue that the existing FRP is insufficient to cover the cost of cultivation.
Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the association, called for the government to announce a complete waiver of all agricultural loans given the challenges confronted by the farming community.
Shanthakumar announced a substantial rally in Delhi under Samyukta Kisan Morcha, where farmers from various parts of the country will assemble for a Maha Panchayat on January 13. He disclosed that 14 Kisan conventions have already been conducted nationwide to raise awareness about farmers’ issues and demands. The forthcoming rally in the nation’s capital seeks to advocate for these demands.
