Karnataka: Farmers demand hike in FRP

Sugarcane farmers in Karnataka met chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and sought a hike in fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane, reports Deccanherald.

The delegation of the farmers was led by Sugarcane Grower’s Association president Kurubur Shanthakumar.

CM Bommai has asked the officials to convene a meeting of sugar millers to discuss the issue.

Pointing out that the input costs have been increased, Shanthakumar said that the FRP for cane in UP is Rs 3500 per tonne, in Punjab it is Rs 3800 per tonne and in Gujarat, it is Rs 4400 per tonne.
