Kalaburagi: MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal continued his criticism and held several ministers responsible for the closure of the Chincholi sugar factory. Yatnal specifically named Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Eshwar Khandre, Minister for Textiles, Sugarcane Development, and Sugar Shivanand Patil, and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, daring them to now purchase the factory, reported The Hindu.
“Mr. Kharge and Mr. Khandre are responsible for shutting down the sugar factory. If they are concerned about it, let them purchase it for ₹850 crore,” Yatnal stated during a press briefing on Monday.
He explained that over the past decade, multiple tenders had been issued to sell the factory, but no buyers came forward except for him. “I bought the factory to protect the interests of sugarcane farmers in the region, but Mr. Khandre and Mr. Kharge are creating obstacles for political reasons,” Yatnal claimed.
The MLA questioned the Congress leaders’ commitment to farmers, pointing out that they had not taken any steps to acquire the factory. According to him, the Chincholi Sugar Factory had provided benefits to 15,000 farmers and created about 2,000 jobs after his purchase.
He highlighted the region’s upcoming sugarcane harvest, stating that farmers in Chitapur, Sedam, and Chincholi taluks are expected to harvest around 20 lakh tonnes, with an additional 10 lakh tonnes coming from Humnabad taluk. Yatnal warned that without the Chincholi factory resuming sugarcane crushing this season, farmers would face severe difficulties.
