Karnataka : Minister questions Mysore Sugar Company’s failure to meet crushing target

Mysuru: Shivanand Patil, the Minister for Textiles, Sugar, Sugarcane Development, and Agricultural Marketing, raised concerns on Wednesday over the Mysore Sugar Company (Mysugar) in Mandya failing to meet its sugarcane crushing target. During a review meeting with Mysugar officials, the Minister sought an explanation for the State-owned company’s inability to achieve its goal of crushing 2.5 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, reports The Hindu.

While other sugar factories in the region continue their crushing operations, Mysugar halted its activities as early as November last year. The Minister emphasized that such delays should not occur in the upcoming crushing season and directed officials to ensure the target is met moving forward.

Patil also expressed dissatisfaction over the company’s decision to sell sugar despite clear instructions against it. He urged the management to complete all necessary repairs and maintenance work at the Mysugar factory before the next crushing season begins. Additionally, he advised officials to sell molasses only when market prices are favourable.

The review meeting was attended by Mysugar Chairman C.D. Gangadhar and In-charge Managing Director Veena.
