Sugar production in Karnataka has witnessed a spike in the ongoing crushing season 2021-22.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), 72 sugar mills in Karnataka have produced 57.65 lakh tonnes of sugar till March 31, 2022. This is the highest sugar production reported in the state so far. During last season, 66 sugar mills had produced 42.38 lakh tonnes of sugar and 65 mills had stopped operations till March 31, 2021.
In the current season, 51 mills have closed operations and the remaining are still operating.
