Mysuru: Some sugar mills in Mandya have been given a 10-day ultimatum to settle outstanding payments owed to farmers who supplied sugarcane over the past two weeks, reported The Hindu.
Despite a lapse of 14 days since the sugarcane deliveries, the factories have failed to disburse the full payment. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumara conveyed this directive during a meeting in Mandya on Monday, attended by officers and representatives from the sugar mills.
Expressing dissatisfaction with receiving complaints from farmers regarding non-payment, the Deputy Commissioner sought explanations for the delayed settlements. The meeting aimed to ascertain the reasons behind the payment delays and the specific amounts owed by factory to the farmers.
