Bengaluru: Sugar mills have been asked to clear the pending dues of Rs 1,435.94 crore to the cane farmers, said Karnataka’s Sugar Minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, reports Deccan Herald.
He was speaking after chairing the meeting with the officials of the sugar mills in the state.
Minister said, “Till April 15, the mills owe dues of Rs 2,389.94 crore but the they cleared around Rs 954 crore to the farmers after the government issued notices to them.”
“The government is taking strict measures to ensure that pending dues are paid to farmers. The payments will be made to them at the earliest,” he further added.
Karnataka is also working on plan to formulate ethanol policy in the state.
