Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers demand SAP of Rs 3300 per tonne

Bengaluru, Karnataka: The delay in fixing the sugarcane State advisory price (SAP) for 2020–21 season has angered farmers as crushing of cane has begun at sugar mills. The farmers have demanded SAP for sugarcane to Rs 3,300 per tonne.

According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, in a meeting between the cane farmers and the government under the leadership of Sugar and Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar remained inconclusive on Thursday. Hebbar, however, promised the farmers to consider their demand after consulting with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

The Centre had recently announced the fair and remunerative price (FRP) of sugarcane at Rs 2,850 a tonne for a recovery rate of 10 per cent.
