Hubballi: Sugarcane farmers have intensified their agitation demanding a higher Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) and warned that they would launch jail bharo if the government fails to accept their demand, reports The Hindu.
They are staging an agitation in the office building premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Dharwad since Monday and intensified their agitation on Wednesday.
They have stated that the cost of production has increased by 20% and their demand for higher cane prices is justifiable.
Farmers are agitating under the banner of the Karnataka Sugarcane Growers Association.
Led by State president of the Karnataka Sugarcane Growers Association Kurubur Shanthkumar, farmers have demanded FRP of Rs 5,500 per tonne of sugarcane.
