Dharwad: The Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association (KSSGA) has asked farmers to not supply sugarcane to sugar mills until they receive the pending due of additional Rs 150 per tonne from the previous season, reported The Times of India.
President of KSSGA, Kurubur Shanthkumar emphasized that farmers would only consider delivering their sugarcane to mills if they clear pending payment of an additional Rs 150 per tonne before the commencement of the upcoming crushing season.
Shanthkumar said the yield of sugarcane has come down due to failure of monsoon and the sugar mills are vying to buy sugarcane. “Farmers should make it clear to the sugar factories that they will supply cane to those who clear their last year’s due and pay higher price,” he further added.
