A new high-tech sugar mill capable of producing up to 150,000 tons of sugar annually is being planned in Shu, Zhambyl region, to help meet the country’s domestic demand, according to Kazinform News Agency.
Officials say the expansion of sugar production will also include increasing the capacity of the Merke sugar plant from 3,000 to 4,000 tons per day, along with the installation of a new production line at the Taraz plant. Additionally, the Koksu plant is expected to see its production grow from 2,200 to 5,000 tons per day.
A key investor, Qazsugar CO, is leading the project for the new sugar mill in Shu. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing with Al Khaleej Sugar company regarding a potential investment project in the Almaty region, according to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
In an effort to modernize the Taraz sugar plant, an investment program has been outlined for 2025-2026. The first phase of repair work has already been completed with support from the Agrarian Credit Corporation.
Authorities have emphasized that the Zhambyl region is set to expand its sugar beet processing capabilities as part of the broader effort to enhance domestic sugar production.
