Astana: Kazakhstan is planning to increase sugar production, both from sugarcane and beet to 490 thousand tons from 283 thousand tons in the middle term, said agriculture minister Yerbol Karashukeyev, reports Azernews, reports caribbeannationalweekly.
The government has begun work in this direction and will construct a sugar plant having a capacity of 150 thousand tons of sugar per year in the agro-industrial park in Aksu city of Pavlodar region, said Yrbol Karashukeyev.
This would help in reducing import dependence as well as increase sugar production to meet domestic demand, he said.
“We are working with foreign companies like Calik Holding, YDA Group, Champion Foods, Murban Rusagro, and Inoks Capital to attract investors to set up plants to produce sugar,” he said.
Sugar production would be increased from 33 thousand to 250 thousand following the expansion in cultivation area from 12 to 38 thousand and rising domestic supplies from 51% to 83%.
