Kisan Sabha demands an increase in sugarcane price

Rohtak: The All-India Kisan Sabha Haryana (AIKS) has demanded the government to hike the state-advised price (SAP) of sugarcane, reports Tribune India

Inderjit Singh, state vice-president of AIKS, said, “Sugarcane is a long-duration crop and occupies more time than other crops. The attack of pests and insects increases the cost of production due to the spray of insecticides to control the spread of disease. The existing SAP of Rs 362 per quintal is not sufficient to meet the expenses of cane farmers and there is a need to hike it as the prices of input costs including fertilizers, pesticides, labour charges, fuel prices and rents of farm machinery have been increased.”

We have also discussed the issue of deduction of 7% of weight after cutting cane by harvesting machines, he said.

We appeal to farmers to come together and fight for their demands which include hiking SAP for cane as well as providing sugar to the cane farmers at subsidized rates, he said.
