Kolhapur: Till 27 February 2020, 22 sugar mills in the state have closed their operations. Flood and drought have impacted the crushing operations this season. With this, many mills in the state registered low sugar recovery, but mills in Kolhapur division performed well in terms of recovery.
According to the Maharashtra Sugar Commissionerate report, sugar mills in Kolhapur division recorded an average of 12.06 per cent sugar recovery. Panchganga sugar mill in Kolhapur district recorded the highest 12.73 sugar recovery whereas Ninaidevi sugar mill in Sangli district recorded the highest 12.87 sugar recovery.
Till 27 Feb, 2020, overall 22 sugar mills in the state have closed their operations. Which include 10 mills in Aurangabad, 4 mills in Pune, 3 mils in Ahmednagar, 3 mills in Solapur, 1 mill in Kolhapur and 1 mill in Amravati district. Overall 143 sugar mills participated in the current crushing season.
Flood and drought have also hampered the sugar production in the state. Till 27th February, 451.40 lakh tonnes sugarcane was crushed and produced 497.45 lakh quintal of sugar with a recovery rate of 11.02 per cent.
