Erbil, Kurdistan Region: New sugar factory under construction near Ranya will produce 500 tonnes of sugar daily and will also create new 8,000 jobs, said deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Qubad Talabani.
Speaking on the occasion of a ceremony in Bitwen, near Ranya city on Thursday he said that our investors are now focusing on agricultural production and generating new employment opportunities. The setting up of a sugar mill will generate around 8000 jobs directly or indirectly, he said.
Mohammed Shukri, chairman of the Board of Investment said, “Kurdistan region imported more than 140,000 tonnes of sugar in 2019. The increase in the sugar production in the mill will help in reducing sugar imports.”
