Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers in the Devkali village area, which supplies sugarcane to the Bajaj Sugar Mill, recently gathered for a meeting to learn how to improve their farming. The sugar mill organized the event to give farmers helpful tips and information, reports Live Hindustan.
Around 135 farmers from the area attended the meeting. Experts from the sugar mill, including the top manager for sugarcane, P.S. Chaturvedi, and a senior sugarcane expert, Ashutosh Madhukar, were there to speak with the farmers.
Chaturvedi told the farmers that it’s very important to plow their fields deeply before planting sugarcane. He explained that the soil is getting hard underneath. He also suggested they plant sugarcane using a trench method, saying that the top part of the sugarcane grows best. He advised them to use the top part for planting and sell the rest to the mill.
Satyendra Kumar Mishra, another sugarcane manager, advised on how to get a good crop from sugarcane that grows back after the first harvest. He said farmers should water their fields right after cutting the cane and add fertilizer.
Madhukar explained the different government programs and money help available to farmers. He also talked about what to do when planting sugarcane in the spring, which types of sugarcane to plant, the benefits of using drip watering, and how planting young sugarcane plants grown by local women’s groups can help. He also told them about renting farm equipment at low prices and the fertilizers and other products the committee sells.
The meeting was led by Jitendra Kumar Shukla, a former village leader. Satyendra Kumar Mishra also helped run the meeting.
Many people were at the event, including Ravendra Kumar, an assistant sugarcane officer, and farmers like Rakesh Mishra, Om Prakash Yadav, Anil Verma, Kedarnath Verma, Rajesh Kumar, Farid Ahmed, and Farhad Khan. Sugarcane workers from the local committee and the mill were also there, along with many other farmers.
