Chhata (Mathura): Sugarcane farmers in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath have urged them to revive the closed Chhata sugar mill. It is closed from the last seven years.
Vinod Kumar, president of the Dainik Yatri Sangharsh Samiti, said, “The sugar mill in the region was hope for the farmers and workers. The cane producers are waiting for the commencement of sugar mill. The closure of the mill has resulted into increase in unemployment in the region, and people have flocked to Palwal, Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Noida, and Delhi in search of news jobs. Starting the mill will generate employment as well as revenue to the government.”
Recently, Uttar Pradesh government announced a revival package of Rs 1,100 crore for two sugar mills in the eastern part of the state. According to the government, as many as 30,000 farmers will be benefitted with this project, and about 8500 direct/ indirect job opportunities will be created.
