Roorki: Libberheri sugar mill in Uttarakhand has paid the sugarcane dues to farmers before Diwali, giving them a much-needed boost, reported Live Hindustan.
The mill started sugarcane crushing on November 4 and had crushed around 1,20,000 quintals of sugarcane by November 6. After starting the crushing season, the mill has now also taken the lead in the district in terms of sugarcane payment.
“Farmers will be relieved to get the payment before Diwali,” said Anil Singh, the general manager of Libberheri sugar mill. “We have already sent Rs 4.20 crore to the concerned committees for the payment of sugarcane for the crushing season 2023-24.”
The early payment of sugarcane price is a welcome move for farmers, who often face payment delays. The Libberheri sugar mill is a major sugar producer in Uttarakhand.
