Lucknow: Impersonating excise officers, ethanol tanker looted; six arrested

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking case of ethanol tanker theft came to light on March 22 in the BKT police station area of Lucknow. The theft involved a tanker filled with ethanol, which was taken by a gang of six individuals. Following an intensive investigation, the Crime and Surveillance team of the North Zone arrested the six accused on Monday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ranjeet Awasthi, Ramji Awasthi, Mukut Shukla, Abhay Singh, Ajit Yadav, and Monu Singh.

According to the police, the incident was reported by the tanker driver, who stated that around midnight, four unidentified individuals in a car stopped his ethanol-laden tanker near the SB Cold Storage Ice Factory in Rampur Devray. The culprits posed as excise officers and seized the tanker. They also summoned another car and, with the help of two other unidentified individuals, forcibly loaded the ethanol into their vehicle before fleeing the scene.

According to the news report, the police registered a case and formed teams to capture the culprits. The police were tipped off that the robbers had fled towards Dubagga. Using the GPS tracker in the stolen tanker, the police were able to track the vehicle and arrest all the suspects.

The police recovered the stolen tanker, valued at approximately 50 lakh rupees, along with an estimated 30 lakh rupees worth of ethanol.
