Vijaypur, Madhya Pradesh: A fire broke out in a sugarcane field in the village of Khitarpal in Vijaypur, on Tuesday, destroying more than half of the crop, reported Nai Duniya.
The fire, which started at 2:00 PM, quickly spread through the field, engulfing the entire crop in flames. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze, but not before it had caused significant damage.
The farmer who owns the field, Ramdayal, said he had been planning to harvest and sell the sugarcane crop. The fire has caused him a loss of lakhs of rupees (tens of thousands of dollars).
Ramdayal was also planning to use the money from the crop to pay for his daughter’s wedding, which is scheduled for next month. The fire has now put those plans in jeopardy.
Ramdayal has appealed to the government to provide him with compensation for his losses.
