Pune, Maharashtra: Majority of the sugar mills in Maharashtra have started the crushing operations. Till December 24, 177 mills were engaged in sugarcane crushing and produced 343.86 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 367.9 lakh tonne sugarcane. The state has recorded an average sugar recovery of 9.35 per cent.
As of now, Solapur division is leading in the state with 38 sugar mills in operation. Whereas in Kolhapur division, 36 sugar mills started cane crushing. In Nagpur division, officially none of the mills kickstarted the season.
Kolhapur division records sugar recovery at 10.89 per cent in the current season.
