33 sugar mills in Maharashtra have ended crushing operations so far in the current season, compared to 95 mills during same period in the pervious season, data from the Sugar Commissionerate showed.
Sugar recovery has also seen a marginal increase this season, at 10.11% as of March 10, 2024, compared to 9.94% last year.
Of the 207 sugar mills that participated in the crushing this season, including 103 cooperative and 104 private mills, 966.82 lakh tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed so far, and 977.86 lakh quintals (97.78 lakh tonnes) of sugar produced.
In comparison, 211 mills had crushed 1012.94 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 1006.62 lakh quintals of sugar in the previous season during the same period.
So far, four sugar mills in Kolhapur division, nine sugar mills in Solapur division, four in Pune division, four in Ahmednagar division, eight sugar mills in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar division, and four sugar mills in Nanded division have closed their crushing season.
