Pune: As the sugarcane crushing season has entered its last stage, the mills are closing their operations. In Maharashtra, as many as 49 sugar mills completed the cane crushing operations till March 16.
According to the data released by the sugar commissionerate, 187 sugar mills took part in the cane crushing operations this season. These mills have produced 946.29 lakh quintal sugar after crushing 910.48 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.39%.
31 sugar mills in the Solapur division and 8 mills in the Kolhapur division have stopped operations. Other mills that have closed their operations are 3 from Ahmednagar and 2 each from Aurangabad, Nanded and Amaravati. One mill from Pune has ended a cane crushing operation.
