Pune: The sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra has reached at the final phase and as many as 52 sugar mills in the state have closed their operations till March 18.
According to the data released by the sugarcane commissionerate total of 187 sugar mills from the state participated in the cane crushing operations for the ongoing crushing season. These mills have produced 957.57 lakh quintal sugar after crushing 920.23 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.41 per cent.
The mills that have closed their operations include 31 from Solapur, 9 from Kolhapur, 3 from Ahmedngar and 2 each from Aurangabad, Nanded, Pune and Amaravati.
