Pune: Sugarcane cutters working in the sugar belt of Maharashtra are returning home as mercury is rising and made difficult for them to work in feilds, reports The Times Of India.
The temperature during day time is reaching above 40 degrees celcius during the day time in several districts of Maharashtra and the cane cutters are finding it difficult to work in the cane fields.
According to the officials, the cane crushing season is in the last phase and about 50 lakh tonnes of cane is yet to be crushed during the ongoing crushing season.
It must be noted that recently Maharashtra government had annnounced subsidies to the sugar mills to crush excess sugarcane grown in the state for the ongoing season.
