Pune: As the sugarcane crushing season has entered the final phase, almost 173 sugar mills in Maharashtra have closed their operations and only 17 mills are still operating.
According to the state sugar commissionerate, till May 2, 2021, 190 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operations and have produced 1058.36 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1008.71 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.49 per cent.
According to the commissionerate total 43 sugar mills from Solapur division, 37 from Kolhapur division, 25 from Nanded, 28 from Pune, 19 from Ahmednagar, 17 from Aurangabad, 2 from Amaravati and 2 from Nagpur have ended their operations.
