Maharashtra: Excise department cancels license of sugar mill’s distillery

Kolhapur: The Maharashtra state excise department has cancelled the license of sugar mill’s distillery in Bidri, Kagal tehsil, Kolhapur district, reported The Times of India.

The State excise officials conducted a two-day inspection of the factory following a mismanagement complaint. According to the department’s order, officials discovered that the factory had stored molasses beyond the prescribed limit. Molasses is used to distil the spirit, which is the base for most alcoholic products. Additionally, a stock of unsold spirits (99% alcohol) was found. The total value of these stocks amounts to approximately Rs 12 crore.

Patil told reporters that this was a political vendetta. He said the ruling dispensation does not want him to join MVA.
