Aurangabad: Sugarcane farmers from Maharashtra’s Puntsmba village began an agitation on Wednesday over issues related to sugarcane and other crops.
According to the news agency PTI, Dhananjay Dhanwate, sarpanvh of the village, said that the agitation will continue till June 5. “The agitation will be intensified if government does not accept our demands,” he further added.
In a meeting, that was held last month at the Puntamba gram panchayat, farmers decided to put forth 16 demands before the government.
Dhanwate while referring to some of the demands said that the government should assist Rs 2 lakh per hectare to the farmers whose cane is yet standing in the field.
