Maharashtra: Farmers to launch an agitation for issues related to sugarcane and other crops

Pune: Sugarcane farmers from Puntamba village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra have decided to launch an agitation over sugarcane and other crops issue.

Dhananjay Dhanwate, sarpanch of the village said that the villagers had organized a meeting during which they have decided to launch an agitation.

The village was in news in 2017 due to farmers’ agitation for similar reasons.

According to the news agency PTI, Dhanwate said, “The farmers will be agitating under the banner of Kisan Kranti Morcha (KKM) for various issues. The favorable climate and good rainfall have resulted in bumper cane crop but the sugar mills are not picking up the crop for crushing.”

“Our demand will be that the state government provide help of Rs 2 lakh to the farmers whose sugarcane is still in the fields,” he further added.
