Mumbai: Maharashtra government will provide subsidies to the sugar mills to crush excess sugarcane grown in the state for the ongoing season.
The crushing season is about to end and around 35 lakh tonnes of cane is yet to be crushed, which is likley to extend the season to June end.
The state cabinet has decided to provide a transport subsidy of Rs 5 per tonne to transport cane beyond 50 km from May 1. The mills will also get a subsidy for the decline in the sugar recovery as the temperature is rising during the summer season. It will provide a subsidy of Rs 200 per ton after May 1, to factories where the decline in sugar recovery is 0.5% or above and the final recovery is less than 10%.
Sugar output in Maharashtra is likely to reach a record 136 lakh tons in the 2021-22 season.
