Maharashtra govt may relax norms of the aerial distance between sugar mills

Kolhapur: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has stated that a panel would be set up to consider the demand of relaxing mandatory aerial distance between sugar mills before setting up new ones, reports The Times of India.

As per central government rules, new sugar mills cannot be established around the aerial radius of 15 km of existing sugar mills. This was extended to 25 km by the Congress NCP government in 2014.

A delegation of sugarcane farmers under the leadership of Rayat Kranti Sanghatana leader Sadabhau Khot met Shinde in Mumbai on Thursday and demanded to relax the aerial distance norms.

Shinde later tweeted stating that a panel has been set up to consider farmers’ demand.
