Maharashtra hits all-time high sugar production

Aurangabad: Mills in Maharashtra have registered record sugar production this season.

In the previous season, mills in the state had produced 107 lakh tonnes of sugar, which was all-time high production. In the current season, mills have set a new benchmark by producing 132 lakh tonnes. The state has also surpassed Uttar Pradesh.

According to the news report published by PTI, state sugar commissioner, Shekhar Gaikwad said, “This year sugarcane crushing season is likely to extend for a few more days. Usually, it generally lasts for 120 to 140 days but we are expecting that around 20 mills would run for more than 160 days.”

Sugar mills in Marathwada are tackling the issue of crushing excess sugarcane where 60 lakh tonne cane is yet to be crushed. The factories from Solapur are taking 20,000 tonnes of cane from Marathwada for crushing. Total 90 lakh tonnes of sugarcane is yet to be crushed in the state.
