Pune: Maharashtra is all set to register a new record in sugar production and also ahead to Uttar Pradesh in ongoing crushing season.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), sugar mills in Maharashtra have produced 108.95 lakh tonne of sugar as against 78.33 lakh tonne sugar output in UP till March 15, 2022.
According to the revised estimate of ISMA, sugar output in Maharashtra is expected to be 126 lakh tonnes after diverting sugar for ethanol production as against the earlier estimate of 117 lakh tonnes.
According to the state sugar commissionerate, 18 sugar mills in the state have closed operations till March 20, 2022, which include 14 mills from Kolhapur, 1 from Nagpur, and 3 from Solapur district.
In Maharashtra total of 197 sugar mills, including 98 cooperative mills and 99 private mills, have participated in the cane crushing operations and they produced 1111.64 lakh quintal (111 lakh tonne) sugar with a recovery rate of 10.36% till March 20, 2022.
