Pune: As many as 16 sugar mills in Maharashtra have been identified in delaying first cane payment to the sugarcane farmers for the on-going crushing season. Maharashtra Sugar Commissionerate has issued show-cause notices to these sugar mills.
According to the news report published in Indianexpress.com, the action has been taken to ensure sugar mills follow the rules and do not default in payments later in the season. Regional joint directors of sugar were asked to identify mills which have failed to pay within 45 days of crushing. And similarly, show-cause notices have been issued to the mills asking why there is a delay in cane payment.
Till 14 December 2020, 172 sugar mills have commenced the crushing operations and produced 261.02 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 287.09 lakh tonnes sugarcane with an average recovery rate of 9.09 per cent.
