Maharashtra: Sugar mill duped for sugarcane cutting; contractor arrested

Latur: A contractor has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a cooperative sugar mill in Maharashtra’s Latur district of around Rs 7 lakh, an official said on Thursday, reported PTI.

Nitin Dnyandev Ingle, a resident of Solapur district, had signed a contract with Manjara cooperative sugar mill, located on the outskirts of Latur city, for sugarcane cutting in 2023. Although Ingle had received an advance payment of Rs 7 lakh, he allegedly failed to perform the work and did not return the money, the official stated.

Following a complaint from the sugar mill, the police recently arrested Ingle. Latur Superintendent of Police Somay Munde had instructed the MIDC police to take action against the accused, the official added.
