The State Sugar Workers’ Representatives Committee announced on Monday that sugar mill workers in the state will begin an indefinite strike from December 16 to press for 25 unresolved demands, including a revision of their pay scale.
Speaking at a rally of sugar mill workers, Tatyasaheb Kale and Pradeep Shinde, president and vice-president of the Committee, respectively, announced their decision to go on strike starting December 16 to address their long-pending issues.
Kale explained that the three-party agreement regarding pay hikes and improvements in working conditions had expired on March 31, 2024, and the government has since neglected the workers’ demands for a pay raise. As a result, the workers have resolved to begin an indefinite strike, reported news agency UNI.
He also called on the government to immediately form a committee to review the pay scale, enhance service conditions, and clear the outstanding dues owed to sugar mill workers.
