Pune: Sugar season in Maharashtra has almost ended as only one mill is operating in the state. After Solapur, Kolhapur, Nanded, Pune, Amaravati and Nagpur, the mills in Ahmednagar district also closed the cane crushing operations.
In the Ahmednagar region, total 26 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operations for this ongoing season and all have completed the crushing. They produced 166.99 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 169.84 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 9.83 per cent.
According to the sugarcane commissionerate, out of 190 sugar mills that took part in the cane cursing activities this season, 189 mills have closed crushing operations. These mills have produced 1062.72 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1012.39 lakh tonne sugarcane. The average sugar recovery rate in the state has been recorded at 10.50 per cent.
As per data, 43 mills from Solapur division, 37 from Kolhapur, 31 from Pune, 21 from Aurangabad, 2 from Amaravati and 3 mills from Nagpur have closed their operations.
