Maharashtra: Sugar mills pay 92 per cent FRP to cane growers

Sugar mills in Maharashtra have cleared 92% of the fair and remunerative price (FRP) to the cane farmers till April 30. According to the news report published in thehindubusinessline.com, as per the data published by the Sugar Commissioner of Maharashtra, the mills have paid Rs 20,599.73 crore out of the payable FRP of Rs 22,293.34 crore.

The mills last year had paid FRP of Rs 12,036.62 crore during the same period. Out of the 190 sugar mills from the state, 102 sugar mills have paid 100% FRP to the cane farmers and 88 mills have paid partly FRP.

As per the sugarcane control act, the mills should clear the cane dues to the farmers within 14 days of crushing their cane else they have to pay farmers dues with 15% interest on the pending dues.

According to the state sugar commissionerate, around 190 sugar mills have produced 1059.72 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1009.84 lakh tonne sugarcane till May 6. The mills have reported an average recovery rate of 10.49 per cent.
