Kolhapur: The sugar mills in Maharashtra have crushed more cane till December end this season as compared with last season but are yet to pay Rs 2140 crore to the cane farmers.
According to the state sugar commissionerate, as many as 182 sugar mills including private and cooperative mills have crushed 546 lakh tonne of sugarcane till January 18.
As per news report published in Timesofindia.com, according to the information released by the sugar commissioner, factories have, so far, paid Rs 4,657 crore to the farmers while Rs 2,140 is yet to be paid. Unlike last year, not a single factory has been issued a notice under the Revenue Recovery Code.
