Manjra Sugar Industries is taking the steps in modernizing Maharashtra’s sugar industry by adopting AI-driven farming. In a technological era reshaping traditional industries, the sugar sector is embracing innovations like artificial intelligence (AI) to boost productivity, improve recovery rates, and enhance farmer incomes.
The company has partnered with MapMyCrop to implement AI-driven farming, becoming one of the first private sugar mills in Maharashtra to do so. This MoU aims to boost sugarcane yield, optimize water use, restore soil health, and combat climate challenges using satellite imaging and AI analytics.
A pilot project has been launched in Dharashiv and Latur, where the AI system will monitor soil conditions, sucrose content, and crop health using multispectral data. The technology promises to predict sugar recovery with 95% accuracy, providing farmers with real-time insights on crop health, weather conditions, and yield forecasts. This will enable farmers to reduce costs, optimize resource use, and improve productivity.
MapMyCrop’s prior success with Baramati Agro Trust has paved the way for this expansion. Post-evaluation, the initiative may scale further, with similar projects already in Odisha, MP, Karnataka, and UP.
In Uttar Pradesh, Zuari Industries Limited’s Gobind Sugar Mills-Aira (GSMA) is also adopting AI technology, which is revolutionizing sugar production and empowering farmers. This growing trend of AI integration in the sugar industry is showing a broader shift towards sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.
