Putrajaya: The operation launched to crackdown on sugar hoarders would continue till July 31, reports The Star.
Datuk Azman Adam said that the operation was supposed to be ended in June but has been extended.
The operation launched on May 3 has been successful in stabilizing sugar prices in the domestic market and enabling the supply of the commodity in the domestic market, said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) enforcement director general.
This also helped the consumers to get sugar at the rate fixed by the government, he said.
“We want to ensure that people are not worried and there is no need of panic buying,” he said.
The prices of coarse and refined white sugar have been fixed at RM 2.85 per kg and RM 2.95 per kg respectively.
The market however determines the price of clear refined white sugar.
